About This Leh–Ladakh Adventure Trip

Ladakh is a high-altitude cold desert on the far side of the Himalaya, and it does not resemble anywhere else in India. The valleys sit above 3,000 m, the air is thin and dry, the light is extraordinarily clear, and the culture is Tibetan Buddhist rather than Indian plains.

The itinerary is built around acclimatisation as much as sightseeing. The first day in Leh is deliberately quiet, because arriving by air puts you at 3,500 m within hours, and the high excursions to Pangong, Nubra and Khardung La only work if your body has had time to adjust.

Who This Tour Suits

  • Travellers in reasonable health who want genuinely dramatic high-altitude landscape
  • Photographers — the light and the terrain are the draw
  • Motorcycle and road-trip enthusiasts

Know Before You Book

  • Altitude is the single most important factor. The first 24 hours in Leh should be spent resting, not sightseeing.
  • The season is short. Most of Ladakh is accessible roughly May to September; high passes close outside that.
  • Inner Line Permits are required for Nubra, Pangong and several other areas, and are arranged before travel.
  • Mobile coverage is patchy to non-existent outside Leh, and only postpaid Indian SIMs work at all.
  • Anyone with a heart or respiratory condition should get medical advice before booking.

  • Hotel & camp accommodation (double sharing)
  • Daily breakfast
  • Private cab / Tempo Traveller

Frequently Asked Questions

How serious is altitude sickness in Ladakh?

It is a genuine consideration, not a formality. Leh sits at about 3,500 m and flying in from sea level is an abrupt change, so mild headaches and breathlessness on the first day are common. The itinerary allows a rest day on arrival for exactly this reason. Drink plenty of water, skip alcohol for the first two days, and tell your guide immediately if symptoms worsen rather than pressing on.

When is the best time to visit Leh-Ladakh?

May to September. Roads over the high passes are usually cleared by late May and start closing again from October, and Pangong and Nubra are only reliably reachable inside that window. Winter travel is possible by air for a very different, much colder trip, but most of the region is inaccessible.

Do we need permits for Ladakh?

Yes. Inner Line Permits are required for Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and other areas near the border, and Indian nationals and foreign nationals are treated differently. Permit arrangements are handled as part of the package, but we need your identity documents well ahead of travel.

Is Ladakh suitable for children or elderly travellers?

It depends on health rather than age. The altitude affects everyone, and there is limited medical infrastructure outside Leh. Very young children and anyone with a heart or lung condition should have a doctor confirm the trip is sensible before booking. Talk to us about pacing and we can build in extra acclimatisation.
