Why is Khajjiar called Mini Switzerland?
It is a flat green meadow about 1.2 km across, ringed by dense deodar forest with a small lake in the middle — an unusual landform for this part of the Himalaya, and the resemblance was noted formally by a Swiss diplomat in the 1990s. It is a short excursion from Dalhousie and easily done in half a day.
Is Dalhousie better than Shimla or Manali?
It is quieter and less commercial, which suits some travellers and disappoints others. There is less to do in the evenings and fewer adventure activities, but the forest walks, churches and views are excellent and you will share them with far fewer people.
When should we visit Dalhousie?
March to June for clear, mild weather and open roads, and December to February for snow, though some routes can close. Monsoon months are green and dramatic but bring landslide risk on the approach roads.
