About This Journey
This is the cultural counterpart to the Ladakh adventure tour — the same region approached through its monasteries, festivals and daily practice rather than its passes and lakes.
Ladakh has been Tibetan Buddhist for over a thousand years, and its gompas are working monastic communities rather than monuments. The itinerary spends time in them, alongside the old town of Leh and the craft traditions of the valley.

Frequently Asked Questions
When are the Ladakh monastery festivals?
They follow the Tibetan lunar calendar, so dates shift each year — Hemis is usually in June or July, while several others fall in winter. Masked cham dances are the centrepiece. If timing your trip to a specific festival matters, tell us early so the itinerary can be built around the confirmed date.
What etiquette should we observe in monasteries?
Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, remove shoes where indicated, and walk clockwise around stupas, prayer wheels and mani walls. Ask before photographing inside prayer halls or photographing monks — many halls prohibit it. Keep quiet during prayers, and your guide will tell you when it is fine to enter.
How is this different from the Leh-Ladakh adventure tour?
The adventure itinerary is built around Khardung La, Pangong, Nubra and the high passes. This one focuses on monasteries, Leh old town, craft traditions and Ladakhi food. Both need the same acclimatisation, but the days are quite different.
