About This Journey
Chamba was the seat of a princely state for over a thousand years, and unusually it was never sacked, so its temple architecture survived where much of the rest of the western Himalaya's did not. The Lakshmi Narayan temple complex and the Bhuri Singh Museum hold the results.
The town is also the home of two distinctive crafts: the Chamba Rumal, a fine double-satin-stitch embroidery once given as a marriage gift, and the Chamba-Kalam school of miniature painting.

A hand-embroidered cloth worked in a double-satin stitch that produces an identical picture on both faces, traditionally showing scenes from the Krishna legends. When is the Minjar Fair?
It falls in late July or early August, on the second Sunday of the Hindu month of Shravana, so exact dates shift each year. It runs for a week on the Chaugan ground with processions, folk music and a closing ceremony at the Ravi. Accommodation is scarce during it, so plan well ahead.
How do we reach Chamba?
